VOX AC10C1 USED PORTABLE

What do you think of it? Have you ever tried to do psych/garage with it? How do you find it takes jangly (Rickenbacker loving but not really) guitar and fuzz tones? Any issues to be aware of or mindful of?

Ironically the Vox is half the price of the Fender, but no matter if it does the job.

I was wondering what anyone who has the Vox AC10C1 thinks, and would you recommend it and/or versus another Vox or alternative amp?Īs I said I do like the '57 Champ, but I am finding I butt heads with it more and more and am looking for something new to try. With the Vox, it seemed to do a good job of imparting an aliveness to this combo, whereas it can sound pretty thin and weedy with the '57 Champ.Įither way I have been looking into either a 10-band eq or perhaps JHS Colourbox as a way to boost up the guitar. I currently play a Fender Jag-stang, which I really like, and it a typical thin trebly kind of sound, especially with the out of phase pickup selection. I paired it with a Strymon Volante, which I am also interested in, partly due to a continual love of Live at Pompeii and a general interest in Echorec's. In the last year I've become really intro psych/garage rock type stuff, which tends to work well with pretty clean, slightly breaking up, guitars that then can freak out with a fuzz. What I most liked was it seemed to have a lot of headroom, especially in the trebles. Lastly, I like having some tone control, an issue with the '57 Champ. Secondly, I liked the reverb, which whilst digital, seemed to sound pretty nice. Firstly, having separate gain/volume options was useful because I could get the sound I liked at the volume I liked. So I'm thinking of switching up and recently tried the Vox AC10C1 in a local store, and I wanted to ask people's opinions here. I've been having issues though as the headroom of the amp is pretty low, to the point that it's just distorting a lot when I use pedals. It only has one knob, a volume, and produces a very sweet tone at low volume, and a nice punchy tweed sound at higher volume. THE BOTTOM LINE: The compact VOX AC10 packs all the legendary Top Boost character of the flagship AC30 and is cleverly voiced for more headroom, versatility and chime.My current amp is a Fender '57 Champ, which is a small tweed amp that I really like.

The studio-quality reverb adds incredible dimension and ambience considering the AC10’s portable size.Īt 10-watts, the AC10 has plenty of volume and nails all the ringing clean jangle and chunky overdrive that Vox is famous for. The reverb has an expansive splash but doesn’t overwhelm the sound because it lacks the noisy digital artifacts found in most built-in reverbs. For more muscular tones, the bass knob provides ample body to shape the amount of heft. Turning up the treble produces sparkling cleans that have razor-sharp top-end sheen. The bass and treble EQ knobs deliver precise tone shaping, and the even taper of the gain and master volume knobs allows for enough clean headroom before blossoming to complex overdriven crunch. What makes it impressive is how detailed and focused its Top Boost tone is no matter what guitar is plugged into its input. Fortunately, the AC10C1 lets me get that tone in an amp that’s both portable and loud enough for gigging. PERFORMANCE: As the owner of three AC30s from different eras, I’m obviously a sucker for the Vox sound.
